Transparency International: rule of law in Hungary almost completely dismantled
According to Transparency International’s latest Corruption Perceptions Index, Hungary is perceived by economic and civil actors as the most corrupt state in the European Union.
Corruption in Hungary
The Hungarian office of Transparency International (TI) has also received the benchmarking report, which examines corruption in the European Union. To get the full picture, civil society and business actors alike share their views.
Hungary is the most corrupt country in the European Union according to TI’s latest Corruption Perceptions Index. This is the result of a decade of work, corruption has become part of the system, JĂ³zsef PĂ©ter Martin, TI’s executive director in Hungary, told NĂ©pszava.
Corruption is also a serious problem in Romania, Greece, Bulgaria and Italy. But in Hungary, the organisation says, it is more serious because the country has such a centralised and top-down pattern of corruption.
According to the head of the organisation, the Hungarian state is captive, which means that the majority of state institutions do not operate autonomously. Most of the leaders have been replaced and the institutions no longer primarily represent the public good.
Hungarians know, but they don’t care
The expert points out that there is also huge pressure from the government in the courts. Corruption is not a by-product of the system, but part of it. The most important element of that unscrupulous system is public procurement, where corruption is found in a significant part of the system, writes index.hu.
The director said that according to the Eurobarometer 2022 survey, 91 percent of Hungarians are aware of the serious issue of corruption. However, their tolerance index remains unchanged.

Andy Andy of course they say Hungary is corrupt these are the same people who insisted Ukraine was so corrupt – at the same time on the take and they are the ones responsible for the War and making even more. The US has given over 100 billion and no one seems to know where it’s gone – more than the Russian defense budget. It only been 10 years since the twice elected president of Ukraine was violently pushed out- yelling corruption. Maybe you are too young to remember.
Having just moved to Europe I believed the BS. Interesting things just got more corrupt. Little did I know the the now president of the US was one of the most corrupt and for over 8 years the man in charge. Of course they say it is corrupt, no EU leader has anywhere near the support Obran has and has had for years. Are you aware over 1/4 of EPs are Soros funded.
The war is a direct result of stupidity if not corruption by the same people. I never had a reason to question the EU, until I moved here and saw what was really going on. There is the UK wanted out even though it was the second biggest player.
Putin is a tough SOB but it takes one to deal with the arrogance and stupidity in the west.
THIS IS THE ANSWER TO TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL – A GEORGE SOROS OPERATION – FROM AN AMERICAN WHO LIVES NEAR SOROS’ HOME:
CORRUPT GEORGE SOROS’ CORRUPT TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL & CORRUPT EU: HUNGARY IS THE MOST CORRUPT NATION!
So they say after Transparency International, Amnesty International, and the EU MEPS, pocketed George Soros’ bribes.
